Korean Drivers Are Bad But There May Be Worse

Korean drivers are notoriously bad but I can tell you from firsthand experience that Russian drivers are at a completely different level. I do have a theory. Korean drivers do not know any better but while Russian drivers know better, they just do not care!

The sheer size of the country, combined with lax, and often corrupt, law enforcement, and a legal system that rarely favors firsthand accounts of traffic accidents has made dash cams all but a requirement for motorists.

“You can get into your car without your pants on, but never get into a car without a dash cam,” Aleksei Dozorov, a motorists’ rights activist in Russia told Radio Free Europe.

I recommend foreign drivers in Korea get dash cams. Better yet get multiple dash cams facing not only forward but backward. I have seen local Korean police collude with Korean citizens in attempts to “frame the foreigner.” It can happen.

Will Sinkholes Sink Lotte World Tower?

Lotte World Tower Lotte World Tower

When it’s finished in 2016, the Lotte World Tower will reach more than 1,800 feet. But unfortunately, crews are encountering some problems as they near the top: Small sinkholes are forming in the neighborhood, and a nearby lake is mysteriously emptying into… hopefully not the base of the world’s sixth tallest building.

The tower, which has taken more than a decade to get off the ground, is due to be completed by 2016. But as it reaches its upper climes, odd things have been happening, as the AP reports today. First, wide sinkholes appeared in the street in Songpa, which is a residential area surrounding the construction site.
